How To Pick The Perfect Pet Sitter
By Noreen Castillo
A growing trend I have been noticing lately is pet sitting. It is being offered by many people nowadays as a great source of extra income for the financially battered. Almost anyone and everybody is offering pet sitting services and almost anyone and everyone can do it. Being on the other side of the spectrum, my husband and I have had to use a pet sitter in the past and it is hard when you yourself are a pet sitter looking for someone to care for your pet. How can you trust someone else to give your pet the same care that you yourself give others? With this in mind, I can honestly say a lot goes into searching for someone to watch your pet when you go out of town and because of this I offer a few easy key tips in your search for that “perfect” pet sitter:
1. Know what you are looking for.
Be confident in knowing what you are wanting when it comes to the care of your pet.
You may (without realizing it) be looking for someone who offers sub-standard services for sub-standard prices. Keep in mind; you get what you pay for.
2. Know your budget.
When searching for a pet sitter, know your budget. Be confident in knowing what you want or need to spend for quality care. Many pet sitters out there will try to tell you that they offer so many services for a small fee per visit throughout the day when in actuality, they really don’t do anything at all for your pet but walk, feed, and that’s it. The scale varies on what is really offered vs. what you are really paying for. Lay out a budget and stick to it!
3. Be picky.
Never settle for anything less than what is best for your pet. There’s no harm in doing a good search before choosing someone that’s right for you and your pet. You want to make sure the person lives/works close enough to where you live and also has good transportation who offers exactly what you need.
There are no perfect people or perfect pet sitters but there are people out there that come pretty close. When it comes to your pet’s health and happiness be picky and be thorough so you can have peace of mind knowing your pets are taken care of when you leave town!
